about

As yesterday was still tomorrow today, Fabian, Niklas and Max are building bridges to the past and the future with absolute open-mindedness. As das bisschen Totschlag, the trio from Hamburg and Berlin merge humour and pathos, human distance and mechanical warmth in their genre-binding and utterly contemporary and dreamy pop compositions. By exploring the boundaries of soft- and hardware, their arrangements highlight the fallibility of non-human objects, offering us characters to sympathise with. Oscillating between several media, the constant mix of endogen and electronic manipulates our perception about the fake and the real - and culminates into a feeling of disorientation. On a blurred trip into tomorrow, das bisschen Totschlag mixes Mephistophelian promises from Virtual Realities with the DIY ethos of various punk influences - and keep finding new ways to sound different from everyone else.

Their newest record SWAMP is an exploration of the musical age of their upbringing. Arriving at an age at which their parents were already settled, occupied with caring for them, the trio realised that they are still just as confused about life as they were 15 years ago. It seemed like a good time to look back. During this record, Fabian, Niklas and Max examine their musical roots by singing their own personal hymns about coming-out-of-age and teenage angst. SWAMP not only describes the location of their hometown - a small city surrounded by marshlands. It describes their issues with gaining a foothold as well as standing for the numerous musical influences cross-genres while growing up.

This project is supported by Initiative Musik gGmbH with project funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media.

das bisschen Totschlag is an overwhelmed observation of the everyday in the Digital Age. The constant mix of endogenous and electronic sounds blurs the line between the fake and the real - culminating into a feeling of disorientation and loneliness. What does it take to be real? ... more
